By 1993, General Johnson
's stuttering, edgy voice hadn't lost as much edge, range or shape as might be expected. The Chairmen of the Board
were a trio, and Johnson
divided lead duties with Danny Woods
, while their supporting arrangements and backing included the obligatory drum machines, synthesizers and New Jack trappings of the urban contemporary sound. This collection reaffirmed Johnson
's characteristic whimsical/ironic life views. They weren't settling for oldies glory, but the group didn't quite make the transition to sleek, quasi-sophisticated 1990s territory.
