By 1993,
General Johnson's stuttering, edgy voice hadn't lost as much edge, range or shape as might be expected.
The Chairmen of the Board were a trio, and
Johnson divided lead duties with
Danny Woods, while their supporting arrangements and backing included the obligatory drum machines, synthesizers and New Jack trappings of the urban contemporary sound. This collection reaffirmed
Johnson's characteristic whimsical/ironic life views. They weren't settling for oldies glory, but the group didn't quite make the transition to sleek, quasi-sophisticated 1990s territory.
